My name is John Scheel. I am 68 years old. I’m a husband. A father. And, I am retired.

My educational background is chemical engineering and business administration. For over 40 years I worked as a management consultant helping corporations with their business problems, often assisting with outside financing.

I am also, like so many other Canadians, a post WWII immigrant.

I am also deeply patriotic. In fact, that’s why I am now an author. This book would not exist had I not had a critical eye, time on my hands and a deep and abiding love for Canada and the freedom to write as I saw it (Had I still been in the corporate world, I would have been conflicted with my bosses and or clients, many of whom would not like what I have to say).

I wrote  because like you I care about Canada and about where we are going as a country.

I am proud of our country’s history. I’m proud of our national accomplishments – from war efforts to our Olympic Hockey tradition. I’m proud of our system of government and our tradition of freedom and democracy. I’m proud of the contributions we’ve made on the world stage – of our role as an international peacekeeper. And, I’m proud of the way we take care for our own citizens (maybe a little too generous). The human rights commissions have gone way overboard.

I am a proud Canadian and it is out of this pride, and because I sensed that as a nation we were losing some of our national pride that I wrote .

I know something else. I know that I am not alone. There are many other good patriotic Canadians who care equally as much as I do. Many are in the silent majority. They feel disenfranchised by our system. They feel or know they are being lied to. But most of all, they feel they don’t have the power to effect change.

Perhaps you are one of these proud silent majority type Canadians. Perhaps like me, you too are deeply proud and care about where we are going.

But there is a problem. We all know it. We feel it in our bones. Some of us even lose sleep over it. We are deeply disturbed that our great country is being run into the ground, by the very people we elected to steer it.

Let’s face it, our political system is broken and the main reason for it is that the people we put in office are more interested in their own advancement than serving the people who elected them and serving our great country.

In my book I write about the biggest political trend around. Political cynicism.

In my book it’s a common theme. I don’t know about you, but I find that more and more elected officials have adopted a very cynical “don’t give a s**t” attitude.

For example, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty is, in my estimation, the biggest cynic of all. In fact, the provincial media dubbed him ‘Teflon man’. Why did they do that? McGuinty had the ability to remove himself from the consequences of his most disastrous and ill-conceived policy positions. As the media said, nothing would stick to him. He was immune to suffering the consequences for breaking his word, for lying, for squandering the public purse and mismanaging our tax dollars; he got away with lining the pockets of his friends and allies, even after it was uncovered – and worst of all he was arrogant and smug about it. He is the quintessential cynic – he knows that he can spin every scandal and avoid all public scrutiny. That’s why media awarded him the singular distinction of being called ‘Mr. Teflon’. And he really believes that nothing will stick to him. That’s why he plans to run on his record this fall. He actually believes that Ontarians are that stupid that they will forget all his lies, broken promises and ill-conceived ideas that have literally brought us to the brink of financial collapse. He and his team think he’s immune because he is wearing the ‘s**t don’t stick here’ suit.

That’s pure and unadulterated political cynicism.

And I’m here to change that. That’s why I wrote .

And Mr. McGuinty isn’t the only politician with this cynical attitude. The trend is deeply disturbing, and systemic – across every level of government from Federal Government right on down to our municipal governments you know, the place we believed would always be the most trustworthy and least partisan because it was only municipal politics.

I spent the better part of 18 months researching and writing about this and many related issues. Politicians and even many civil servants seem to think they can get away with lying, mismanaging and squandering our financial resources and our public trusts. Many of them could not run a corner milk store but their egos say otherwise.

Well, their inabilities need exposing.

They need a kick in the ass from good patriots like me who live everywhere in Canada. And the only thing that has kept us from changing our broken governments is uniting and working to change the system – we haven’t been organized into a single-minded whistle-blowing community.

With my book and the use of my website I intend to change all that.

I’m convinced that the only reason the cynical attitude is so prevalent with too many elected officials is because they really believe there will be no consequences to their actions. I think, they think they will be immune from being exposed; really? That seems crazy with the advent of the Internet and social media. Its proper use will bite them.

In a way I don’t blame them. Many Canadians are cynical themselves. They don’t seem to care one-way or the other. Some Canadians actually even expect politicians to lie. They expect politicians to make promises they won’t keep. I guess, these Canadians feel that if we anticipate being lied to our elected officials won’t disappoint us.

I can’t accept that. And I know you don’t accept it either. That’s why I wrote . No more. I care. I care enough to sound the trumpet; to blow a whistle and uncover the lies, broken promises, the mismanagement of our tax dollars, and most importantly, to organize an entire community of whistle-blowers right across our great country. A community of people who give a s**t.

I know there are many more like me, patriotic Canadians who love and care deeply about Canada and its future and while we have the time and energy we are going to do what we can to turn this country around.

That’s what my book is about. serves as a blue print – so to speak – to show you how you can blow the whistle wherever you live. And whether you live in Nova Scotia or British Columbia, and whether your concerns rest with municipal issues or the Federal Government, by organizing a community of Canadian whistle blowers we can start to take our country back.

There is no sense in waiting for the Media to do it – they are half the problem. A community of whistle-blowers, which consistently exposes the cynical politicians and the incompetent civil servants, can profoundly change the course of our country.

Don’t believe me; just think of the impact Wikileaks has had and that’s just one guy. Imagine the power of a community of whistle-blowers.

I know we can get our country back.

I’m a whistle blower and I want you to help blow the whistle on the lies and broken promises, the mismanagement of our tax dollars. This is my service back to my county. And I want to encourage and create a community of like-minded whistle blowers right across our great nation.

What My Book Does For You

In my book knowledge is power. I expose the cynical lies of our elected officials – the kind of stuff that will turn your head in disgust and cause a genuine taxpayer revolt.

Here are just two:

  • They say unemployment is only 8% but the reality is more like 11+%
  • We are being told that government debt is 34% of GDP – the reality is more like 80% of GDP when provincial spending is considered

I will also show you what programs and departments routinely mismanage and squander billions of our dollars. Programs like:

  • The dairy industry subsidy costs each Canadian almost $100 annually – over $3 billion and is so flagrant that Canada is not allowed to export its dairy products. Canada protects its domestic butter and cheese industries with 299% and 246% tariffs!
  • Ethanol has 65% of the heat value of gasoline (cars go only 65% as far!). Ethanol subsidies have increased corn costs and devastated the pork production industry which has asked for $800 million of subsidies
  • Public-Private Partnerships are mostly a ruse where we build assets we don’t need or can’t afford; financing rates are 7% to 8% right now when I can’t get 1.5% at the bank. But jobs are created and government debt doesn’t grow in this false economy

The most important thing about my book is that you’ll learn the ‘how-to’ of whistle-blowing right where you live.

  • I expose many examples of waste and inefficiency; they are all around you
  • Numbers are used to quantify the waste and show how your pocket is affected
  • Using simple Excel spreadsheets I show how to put the data together in meaningful ways that lead to fallout statistics on which you can draw conclusions
  • You will learn how to analyze most situations on your own by researching and gathering basic data, and structuring the output so you can assess each situation and compare it with similar situations elsewhere
  • You will build confidence and competence in quantifying and presenting problems and become comfortable with numbers
  • Numbers will become your friends; they quantify your arguments with facts and truths, not innuendo and misinformation (where politicians live)
  • Politicians and civil service mandarins hate numbers and prefer to duck them completely or simply misrepresent issues with half truths; you will be able to corner them
  • Follow the numbers patiently to the statistics they create; the process is very simple
  • You will learn how badly our governments are acting for us and living off of our hard earned dollars
